The circular tour provides superb views of the changing coastline and dramatic mountains of this scenic island and includes a visit to the Lagg Whisky Distillery and a local geological exhibition. Soil aspects of the tour include inspections of a Histosol, its development and subsequent use as a source of domestic fuel; a Stagnosol of agriculturally ‘improved’ and drained lowland pasture; a Cambisol of upland sheep pasture, a Podzol under recent commercial forestry management; and an Umbrisol under long-standing mixed woodland in the grounds of a castle!
